Scam-as-a-Service Wallet Drainer Calls It Quits, Leaving a Legacy of Digital Plunder

Inferno Drainer stops its operations after helping to steal 70 millions dollars

In a surprising turn of events, the notorious Inferno Drainer, a prominent player in the realm of crypto wallet-draining services, has declared its closure after aiding phishing scammers in siphoning nearly $70 million worth of cryptocurrencies throughout the year.

The announcement, posted on Telegram on Nov. 26, conveyed the decision of the Inferno Drainer team to bid farewell, asserting that "it's time for us to move on." Strikingly, the team emphasized that the necessary files and infrastructure to operate the wallet-draining service would persist, allowing users a "smooth transition" to alternative services.

"It has been a long ride with all of you, and we'd like to thank you from the heart. Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever," stated the post.

Expressing gratitude to those who collaborated, the post hoped to be remembered as the "best drainer that has ever existed," noting their success in aiding users on the quest for financial gains.

Inferno Drainer rose to prominence in early 2023, gaining traction following the shutdown of the widely used Monkey Drainer tool. Operating similarly to its counterparts, Inferno provided crypto wallet-draining software, claiming a 20% share from the looted proceeds.

Web3 anti-scam platform Scam Sniffer's analytics revealed that since February, Inferno Drainer orchestrated the theft of nearly $70 million from over 100,000 victims. However, the Inferno Drainer team hinted that the actual stolen amount exceeded $80 million.

Deleting their affiliate Telegram account, "mr_inferno_drainer," the team issued a cautionary warning to users, urging them not to trust any future drainers using their name.

CertiK, a blockchain security firm, described Inferno Drainer as "one of the most damaging phishing kits to the community we've seen." Despite its closure, other active providers, such as Pink Drainer and Angel Drainer, continue to pose threats in the digital landscape. Angel Drainer even released an update on Nov. 25, expanding its capabilities to drain wallets across various blockchains.

The legacy of Inferno Drainer leaves a void in the dark world of crypto scams, echoing the closure of another infamous crypto drainer, Monkey Drainer, which ceased operations in March, declaring a move towards something "better."
