The upcoming device, a sequel to Saga, promises new hardware and an affordable price tag, insiders reveal.

Solana Mobile Saga

Solana Mobile is gearing up to release a second cryptocurrency-enabled smartphone, building on the unexpected success of its initial venture into the crypto-ready mobile market, according to sources close to the matter.

The forthcoming smartphone, positioned as the successor to Saga, will retain the essential features of its predecessor, including an integrated crypto wallet, customized Android software, and a dedicated "dApp store" for crypto applications. However, the new device aims to hit the market at a more budget-friendly price point and with distinctive hardware, addressing concerns raised by the initial phone's $1000 price tag at its launch last year, which later underwent reductions due to sluggish sales.

The introduction of the new Solana Mobile phone could potentially curb the soaring demand in the thriving secondary market for existing Saga smartphones. Recent bids on eBay for factory-sealed Saga devices have skyrocketed to $3,200, marking a fivefold increase from just five weeks ago.

This surge in demand comes as a surprise, considering that Saga's backers were initially contemplating moving away from their experimental phone. The initial concept aimed to establish a mobile-centric platform for crypto traders and NFT collectors, but it struggled to find a substantial market.

The tide turned when crypto enthusiasts discovered that the phone included an allocation of BONK tokens, surpassing the device's price. In less than a week, the Saga completely sold out.

Over the subsequent month, Saga phones continued to prove lucrative for their owners. Various projects initiated airdrops of valuable tokens and NFTs exclusively for the 15,000 phones in circulation. These ongoing airdrops not only strengthened the Saga community but also motivated more Solana developers to explore the creation of mobile applications. (Photo Source / Techstory (IN)
